The One21 Interviews Syrens

Syrens are a four piece chaos-core band from the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas. They began under the name of Iris, but three years, a name change, and several member switch ups, the boys are finally taking their unique blend of passion and noise on the road. We caught up with the guys right before they played a show in Austin, Texas. We talked about how the band started, whet the message of their music is, and what studio to NEVER record at if you are in Texas.

Yet another reason for me to not be happy that Im not at Cornerstone Festival right now, The Red Baron have unofficially announced that their shows at the festival will be their last. Waiting for Blood & Ink Records to confirm..

I have seen the artwork for The Almost’s new album called Monster Monster. Its awesome, but Tooth & Nail wont let anyone post it. So you will have to wait. Sorry.

In 2003, a post-hardcore band calling themselves Thrice unleashed their major label debut on the world. The Artist In The Ambulance was a crushing display of talent, energy, and honesty. Despite the fact that the band was labeled as “hard rock”, leader Dustin Kensrue’s lyrics reflected a more insightful and passionate way of looking at the world. For many, the crown jewel of this album was the title track; a song warning against apathy and being grateful for the time given.

On the surface, this is a fun quirky rap tune. However, if you listen closely and you watch the video the real meaning begins to surface. As frontman Fischer stands in the supermarket check out line we begin to fill his isolation as a series of characters cross his path. He observes them from afar,so immersed in his own needs that he never connects with another human being despite encounter after encounter. The isolation of modern living permeates Fischer’s mundane activities, just as it does our lives.

A father, a son and a believer, I have so many experiences of the beauty and exhilaration of fatherhood. I have been blessed. My father set a beautiful example. I have been able to enjoy my sons all the way into their young adult lives. I stand in the transcendent glow of our heavenly Father, no matter if I am the obedient or prodigal son. So I put forth these ideas, not as an expert, but as an exuberant practitioner.
